Auditions take place for a new Irish boyband. Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch, Stephen Gately, Ronan Keating, Mark Walton & Richie Rock come together and Boyzone are formed.
The night after the band are formed, Boyzone make their first Irish TV performance on The Late Late Show. The Group don't have a song prepared so dance to a backing track!
Mark & Richie leave the band to be replaced by Mikey Graham
The Group tour the countries' pubs in the back of a transit van. That Tour is nicknamed either the Window Sill Tour or the Door Step Tour in relation to how small the stages are!
The band release their first single in Ireland, Working My Way Back to You; it features Mikey & Stephen on lead vocals and goes to No. 3 in the charts.
Their second single 'Love Me for a Reason' (The Osmonds cover) becomes their first Irish No. 1.
Boyzone take part in Smash Hits Show on the Road. Opening doors for them in England, Scotland & Wales; they are voted Best Roadshow Act at the Pollwinners Party and Love Me for a Reason enters the UK Chart at No. 11, climbing to No. 2 within a fortnight.
Boyzone continue to take the Irish Charts by storm; achieving 3 further No. 1 singles - Key to My Life, So Good and Father & Son. The same three songs achieve top 5 places in the UK.
They win Best New Act at the IRMAs
The Group embark on their first UK theatre tour.
They release their first album; Said & Done and it becomes No. 1 in both Ireland & the UK where it goes 3x Platinum.
The band pick up the Best New Act Award at The Smash Hits Poll Winners Party
They make the nomination list for the Best International Breakthrough Act at the Brits.

Boyzone score their first No. 1 in the UK with 'Words' and follow that shortly after with their second; A Different Beat.
They take to the road on their first arena tour.
Their second album 'A Different Beat' also achieves No. 1 and 3x Platinum status.
The lads go home with 6 Awards at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party - they include Best Single for 'Words', Best Album for 'A Different Beat' & Best Band in the Universe.
They're nominated in the Best International Group category at the Brit Awards but The Fugees take the prize.
They once again walk away with 2 Awards at the IRMAs - Best overall Irish Act & Best Irish Group Album for 'A Different Beat.'
Isn't it a Wonder becomes their first single to have its music video filmed outside of Ireland or the UK - The destination being Broken Hill in Australia.
Boyzone release Picture of You, which is used as the theme song to Bean: The Movie. Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) also makes a cameo appearance in the music video for the single.
They record 'Let the Message Run Free' and perform it as the interval act at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Ireland, which Ronan presents. The song is also later featured on a Pepsi Advert.
They release Mystical Experience for the American market but also include it as a b-side on Baby Can I Hold You.
The band stage two more sell-out arena tours - 'A Different Beat' in the Spring & 'Something Else' in the Autumn.

All That I Need secures their third UK No. 1, displacing Run DMC & Jason Nevins' 'It's Like That' after a 6 week run at the top.
Where We Belong becomes their most successful studio album, spending 3 weeks at No. 1 and a grand total of 55 weeks in the UK charts. It is also the third biggest selling album of 1998 going 5x Platinum.
They follow that up with their most successful single; No Matter What, also spending 3 weeks at the top of the U.K charts. It sells 1.1 million copies, eventually becoming the biggest selling boyband song of the 90s. In the 98 end-of-year single charts, No Matter What sits at No. 3.
The Group embark on their 'Where We Belong' arena tour - It features a show-stopping Grease Medley.

It's a massive success and becomes their fourth No. 1 album; it initially spends 2 weeks at the top in the UK, slipping down to 2 for two weeks, before jumping back up to 1 and staying there for seven weeks. (9 weeks at No. 1 in total) Overall, By Request spends 57 weeks in the UK charts and is 1999's 2nd Biggest selling album behind Shania Twain's Come On Over. It is certified 6x Platinum.
They embark on their Greatest Hits: By Request tour and perform their biggest show to over 35,000 people at the outdoor venue of the RDS in Dublin.

The accompanying music video has actors playing love interests for the boyz & in a first for any pop band, Stephen is featured with a same-sex partner.
