IT'S all hands on deck for Keith Duffy over the next few months as he's filming a kids' TV show, doing panto - and cooking up a storm as a celebrity chef on a cruise ship.

The 41-year-old Dubliner will be one of 10 celebrities, including Blur's Alex James and former EastEnders' star John Partridge (Christian), who will take to the waves to cook up culinary delights as part of UKTV's new series Battlechefs.

"We'll be cooking for the captain. Marco Pierre White gives you a dig out and after a week the captain chooses what celebrity cooks the best food," he told the Diary.

"It's just a bit of craic to be honest. I enjoy cooking. I do enjoy being in the kitchen, cooking, so I will be looking at different dishes that are local to the area that we are travelling to," he said.

Keith said he uses a Ready Steady Cook approach to cooking.

"I'm not one to look at a cookbook and learn recipes," he said. "I'd rather just use what's in the cupboards and in the fridge and throw a few bits and pieces together."

Keith is now shooting a children's BBC drama called Roy.

"It's a 12-week shoot for about 15 or 16 episodes," he said. "I do Battlechefs in the middle of that out in the Mediterranean, then I'm doing Sleeping Beauty pantomime in Limerick for Christmas and then I go into rehearsals for Big Maggie in Dublin's Gaiety theatre for six weeks until March. So I'm very busy, and Boyzone will be doing a Middle Eastern tour for around Paddy's Day.

Marco Pierre White to judge the cooking skills of celebrities including John Partridge, Alex James and Keith Duffy in competitive new show set at sea.

UKTV has commissioned its first advertiser-funded programme for Watch with the competitive new travelling cookery show, Battlechefs. The broadcaster is teaming up with P&O Cruises to bring the show to its flagship entertainment channel, following a series of successful branded-content partnerships for its other channels including Dave, Yesterday and Good Food.

The show follows ten amateur celebrity chefs including Alex James (Blur), Keith Duffy (Boyzone) and John Partridge (EastEnders) board a cruise ship and take it in turns to command the kitchen. Their talents will be judged by British celebrity chef and restaurateur Marco Pierre White.

Filmed across two separate Mediterranean cruises on newly-launched flagship Britannia, each voyage will be host to its own self-contained competition featuring five celebrities, who will each assume the role as Head Chef and prepare a meal for the Captain and his VIP guests. In each episode, we follow the untrained chefs as the ship sails from port to port and they discover charming and captivating stories about each location and the food that is grown and produced locally.

Using the cooking techniques they’ve learnt, they’ll each try to impress the Captain with their skills. Their competitors will help prepare the meal, but as they also get a chance to score each other, will they play tactically as they fight it out to become Battlechefs Champion?

“We are very excited to be making Battlechefs on Britannia. Watch provides an ideal audience to encourage newcomers to cruising and will showcase our food ethos. Our cookery school on board provides the perfect set for the show as the celebrities prepare the speciality dishes from around the Med.” – Edgington from P&O Cruises

Battlechefs will air on Watch in 2016.

ITV has confirmed more details about The Job Lot's second season – and it includes the casting of Boyzone star Keith Duffy.

The sitcom will begin its second run on ITV2 in the autumn before screening later on the main channel, with Russell Tovey and Sarah Hadland returning as Karl and Trish.

Casualty's Laura Aikman has joined the cast as new Deputy Manager Natalie, while Sophie McShera, Tony Maudsley, Jo Enright, Martin Marquez, Angela Curran and Adeel Akhtar all return.

Among the second season's guest stars are Meera Syal as a CEO of a Midlands hot tub company and Keith Duffy as a telephone engineer with a 'roving eye'.

"It's great to welcome back the brilliantly beleaguered workers and job seekers of the Brownall Job Centre - and this time round with some excellent guest stars, who'll be joining our regular ensemble comedy cast," said Elaine Bedell, ITV's director of comedy & entertainment.

Since 2006, Keith Duffy has built up an acting career, playing roles in shows such as Fair City, Coronation Street and Love/Hate, as well as appearing on stage in the likes of John B Keane's Big Maggie.
